I have an orange male Maine Coon, and when I first got him at 8 weeks this past January 2026, I excitedly ordered what felt like half the cat-adventure internet, including the regular-size SurferCat Life Jacket. I very quickly realized that, being a Maine Coon, he was going to outgrow it much sooner than I expected! I’ve now ordered the XL, which is still just a little roomy on him, but I suspect he’ll grow into it within the next month or so.

I’m especially excited to bring him to my cabin and let him explore the lakeshore, and eventually try kayaking with me. One of the things I really appreciate about the SurferCat life jacket is that it was actually designed for a cat’s body rather than being a downsized dog life vest. It’s lightweight and streamlined, gives him plenty of freedom to move, and still has thoughtful safety features like the grab handle, reflective strip, and leash attachment.

I’ve become a big fan of SurferCat products in general. My kitten is wild, curious, extremely active, and very hard on his gear, and everything I’ve bought from SurferCat has been impressively sturdy and well made. I also love their escape-proof harnesses. The one I have looks fantastic against his orange fur and, more importantly, feels secure without being bulky or restricting his movement.

For anyone raising an adventurous cat, especially a rapidly growing Maine Coon, I would absolutely recommend SurferCat. Just take my advice and keep an eye on those measurements, because a Maine Coon kitten can apparently outgrow a life jacket practically overnight!
